We’ve completed our data crunch for 2023 showing which blockchains added the most new games.
When the data snapshot was taken, there were 896 games listed; an increase of 172 titles compared to the total in January 2023.
This is a net increase, however, given that 523 games were actually added to the list during 2023, with 351 games discontinued.
The blockchains that added most new games during 2023 were:
- WEMIX with 11% (56 games),
- Polygon with 9% (47 games) and
- Ethereum with 6% (33 games).
In addition, 54 titles added to the Big List during 2023 were Multichain games; that is games deploying on more than one blockchain.
However, taking discontinued games into account, the single chains seeing the greatest growth in terms of net increase since January 2023 were:
- WEMIX net up 38 titles,
- Arbitrum up 33,
- TON up 29, and
- Immutable (Immutable X and zkEVM) up 18.
But the largest growth category was Other Chains, up by 59 titles. Indeed, the growth of new blockchains – everything from L1s to L3s – was a key trend in 2023, and not just for gaming but for all blockchain applications. Base (Coinbase), Intella X (Neowiz) and Beam (Merit Circle) are new blockchains announced during 2023.
As of writing, there are currently 93 different blockchains with at least one game on the Big List, of which 51 added new games during 2023.

In terms of chains contracting, both Solana and BNB declined by net 30 titles as those ecosystems suffered from a combination of price trajectory, general sentiment and in the case of BNB factors arising from US regulation.
Most popular blockchain for gaming in January 2024
Nevertheless, it’s worth pointing out that the most popular single chains still include these chains, with
- Polygon leading with 10% of all blockchain games,
- Ethereum with 9%,
- BNB with 7% and
- Solana and Immutable both with 5%.
Currently there’s a total of 896 blockchain games on the Big List that are either live or in development. The largest group with 17% is games that are deployed on multiple chains.
Compared to our January 2023 update, BNB fell back from the top spot. In our H1 2023 update in July, BNB ranked second after Polygon.
Another noticeable change is that Immutable has overtaken Solana, which started 2023 with 70 games and now has 40, whereas Immutable had 29 games listed a year ago, now up to 47.
Ranking 6th on the list is WEMIX, which was too small to be listed in January 2023, but had gained 37 games by June 2023. After having some games added but then cancelled or discontinued, it currently has 38 games listed.

Our data also shows that even the chains that net declined in terms of total games during 2023 – BNB, Solana and WAX – still added new titles.
In addition, interest in gaming-specific infrastructure such as Immutable, Oasys, Neowiz’s Intella X and Ronin remains strong.
Still, we predict the ones to watch in 2024 will be the Multichain and Other Chain categories.
More generally, 2023 was the year we started seeing more blockchains promoting themselves in terms of popularity and how many games are building on them. In contrast, other gaming blockchains put an emphasis on the quality of the games on their network.
Either way, it’s clear that the choice matters a great deal both to developers and the blockchains they deploy on.

Ran the individual numbers through Excel and ended up with 529. Not sure if that’s right though.

Due to the list changing on an everyday basis, the data is very rarely exactly the same as when the data shots – on which we base our updates – are taken. However, a handful of additions or removals shouldn’t affect the bigger trends we’re spotting.

Spot on. And thanks for all the hard work and effort that goes into making and maintaining the Big Blockchain Game list! 🙂
